Math can be a dreaded subject for some children so to be able to find an engaging program can be all that you need to encourage your child to enjoy learning math. Matific Galxay is a fun online math program that encourages children to enjoy practising their math skills. We thoroughly enjoyed review a one year subscription to Matific Galaxy for one child.
Fun and Engaging While Learning Math Skills
To your child, this award winning online program will feel more like a game. It is completely self-guided and includes over 1,500 games that are aligned for Grades K-6. The program includes mathematics activities, and word problems created to improve critical thinking and conceptual understanding. It can be used on a computer or as an app on iOS and Android smartphones and tablets.
Each student has a separate login and they work though episodes as they proceed through the activities. Each episode has a little pixelated character that shows progress within the episode. Your child is basically working through the planet levels in order to unlock the next planets. To do this, they must “rescued” the planet’s leader by earning back all of their pixels, which were stolen from them. Every time your child completes an activity, they earns more pixels to complete the character. They can replay the games as many times as needed in order to earn more pixels and increase their score. Throughout their use of the game, they will earn new ranks, trophies, and achievements which can be viewed in their Achievements page.
The activities in each lesson are varied and immediate reinforcement is given for correct answers. Incorrect answers allow the student to try again. You can easily see what topics are covered for each level on the Matific Galaxy home page.
There is great parent zone of the site. So that you can see how your child is progressing. This includes your child’s scores, how much of the program they’ve completed, and the subjects they have been covering. You can even send your child an encouraging message directly to their account plus you can get weekly emails to let you know how much your child has been progressing.
How We Used Matific Galaxy
My son enjoyed working on Matific Galaxy on our tablet. Our goal each week was to work on it for approximately 45 minutes over at least 3 days. I started him in the Grade 1 level.
He really enjoyed the learning as the games made practising math fun. It took him a little bit to get into concept of the games, but once he started to understand the purpose of earning pixels, he really started to enjoy proceeding through the 10 planets. We look forward to using Matific Galaxy over the summer months to help reinforce my son’s math skills.
Our Recommendation
I would definitely recommend Matific Galaxy for helping your child practise their math skills. If you have a child that doesn’t necessarily enjoy math, this would be a great online program to encourage your child to want to practise.
