Balancing children and a business can be difficult at the best of times, and then throw in homeschooling and life gets complicated.  Finding a balance can be daunting and sometimes feel impossible.  Lisa Tanner Writing has a neat course called Balancing Diapers and Deadlines that helps busy moms with time management that I thoroughly enjoyed reviewing.  It provides productivity tips and helps you by finding a balance between all your commitments without sacrificing time with family.

Balancing Diapers and Deadlines

Baby Steps to Find Balance

Lisa uses baby steps as an effective way to work you through adapting your life to fit you.  Each short lesson includes an action step for you to work on.  I worked through an action step approximately every three days to give me time to introduce the action step into our daily routine. This allowed me the opportunity to apply what I was learning in the course and to start to see the change in our schedule and my time management skills.

How I Applied the Course to My Life

To start the course, Lisa works you through building the foundation that is required to give you a basis work from. This includes basic skills that the rest of the course will build on.  I was able to set some goals, establish some routine tasks and some flexibility in our routines.

As a rancher and homeschool mom, I always seem to be multitasking.  Lisa provided some great tips in this course to help with focusing on the task at hand, minimizing my decisions and with scheduling cleaning and meals.  As we all know, the cleaning is never done, so why not have a solution to help avoid frustration. Do you know that your washing machine may have a delay feature? I wish I had used it sooner!

None of us can keep up at crazy work hours and with no sleep.  Lisa works you through how to find some free time for yourself, how to set boundaries and get some sleep! I needed this!! I really liked her tips on how to find little chunks of time with young children.  She even provides a list of ways to keep young children occupied. If you have older children, she has tips for you too.  She encourages you to integrate your children into your business and include them in brainstorming sessions. Children have great imaginations, so why not get them to help you! I had never thought to do this.  My son loved that I started asking him for blog post suggestions.  I am also going to implement her idea of family writing time, as I could see that being a huge benefit to my entire family. It would be great for my boys to have more writing practise and I let’s be honest, I need more time for writing! I have way too many blog post ideas and trouble finding time to write them.

The final unit discusses how to be productive and get more done within your busy days. Start your day well, end your day so that you are ready for tomorrow and make every minute count. Yes! I am really enjoying her tips and have already started to feel that they are helping me feel more relaxed when I go to bed each night.

Improved Time Management

Through completing this course, I have found that I am getting better at managing and optimising my time throughout the day. I always have enjoyed including my boys into my work and now I have some more ideas on how they can help me while learning alongside me.  I absolutely recommend Balancing Diapers and Deadlines by Lisa Tanner Writing and would love to hear how it changes your routine and time management skills.   If you would like to read some other reviews on this great course, clicking the image below.

We all make choices every day based on our opinions, interests, and based on what we have seen, heard and experienced. We must remember that when marketing our own farm products. There are lots of cattle operations producing cattle and beef for customers to choose from. You need to develop a relationship and a niche for your own brand/operation. Building this will then form relationships with customers that trust you, know what to expect from you and in turn want to support you.
